My first bike accident was a truly unforgettable experience. I was just a carefree kid, pedaling along my neighborhood street when I lost control and crashed into a parked car. The shock, fear, and eventual relief once I realized I was okay, is still vivid in my mind. Hit and run cases are serious offenses in India, and offenders can expect severe punishments. Depending on the severity of the incident and the resulting damage or injury to property or a person, offenders can face a jail term of up to three years, or a fine of up to Rs. 10,000, or both. If the incident results in the death of a person, the jail term can extend up to seven years, or the fine can increase to Rs. 10,000, or both. In such cases, the driver must also pay an amount of compensation to the victim's family. These punishments are meant to deter people from engaging in such dangerous and irresponsible behavior.
